Description:
In the final years of the Shang Dynasty, King Zhou ruled without virtue, neglecting state affairs and leaving the people in misery. Li Jing (Yuen Wah), one of the four great generals of Shang, and his wife Yin Shi-Niang (Kingdom Yuen King-Tan) had a child — but what she gave birth to was a fleshy ball. Convinced it was a demon, Li Jing split the ball with his sword, and inside was a two-year-old boy, Ne Zha (Benny Chan Ho-Man). Desperate to protect her son, Shi-Niang sent Ne Zha to be raised in the Temple of Nuwa. Show more He later befriended Yang Jian (Chin Ka-Lok) and Thunder Kid (Lee Ka-Sing), and the three set out into the world. Yang Jian's sister Yang Lian-Hua (Michelle Ye) fell in love with Ne Zha at first sight. Yet King Zhou gave himself over to pleasure, doted on Su Da-Ji (Irene Wan Pik-Ha), and the people suffered. Jiang Zi-Ya led Ne Zha, Thunder Kid, Yang Jian and others to persuade King Wen to lend his aid, and together they supported King Wu in raising an army against Zhou. With all their strength combined, they marched against the tyrant.
The household-name classic of ancient Chinese literature, Investiture of the Gods, has been adapted for the screen many times across mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. This 40-episode period drama, produced by Hong Kong's TVB in late 2001, not only featured a large cast of top Hong Kong stars but also wove in plenty of action and comedy, breathing new life into the tale. Retelling the classic story once more, it scored impressive ratings when it premiered in 2001.
