Loyalty and love are hard to part with, and stolen love leaves resentment unappeased!
Dong Fei (Sammuel Chan), ignoring his late father's dying wishes, slips away from Taohua Village, where he has lived since childhood, while his sister Lan (Gai Ming-Hui) is unaware. On the road he befriends Chang Huan (Wu Zhuo-Xi), a fisherman's son. When Fei and Huan go to the Qiantang River to watch the tidal bore, Fei falls in love at first sight with Xing Xiao-Xue (Cao Min-Li), a daughter of a wealthy family. Show more
Lan and Fei unexpectedly discover that their father died unjustly accused. To clear his name, the two settle in Hangzhou. During her investigation, Lan meets Di Ying-Wei (Yuen Wah), a commandant of the imperial guards posing as a scaffold builder. Wei's sworn elder brother was killed by the Five Ghosts of Cangzhou, and Wei has long concealed his identity to investigate more freely. As the inquiry unfolds, it turns out that the death of Lan's father is closely intertwined with both the Five Ghosts of Cangzhou and Xue's father.
Meanwhile, Fei and Huan fall out over Xue, and Fei, blinded by greed, gravely wounds Lan.
