Description:
Petrina Fung Bo-Bo plays the gender-ambiguous "Flying Knight White Dragon," and the film features a blind swordsman portrayed by veteran actor Sek Kin.
The scene in which the blind killer Lung Chun, played by Sek Kin, severs White Dragon's hand with a coffin lid, and the one where White Dragon disrupts Lung Chun with bees, are widely regarded as brilliant set pieces. In terms of character design, the White Dragon series also displays a distinctive style: Lung Chun always carries a large wooden box on his back because he keeps all the money he has earned in his life inside it, and uses the box to cover the vulnerable pressure point on his back. Cantonese films of the 1960s were heavily influenced by Western cinema, and the White Dragon films grew up in that atmosphere, but they were mainly influenced by Japanese period martial arts films of the time. White Dragon's look closely resembles that of a young Japanese samurai. Japanese-style hair ornaments and clothing were rare at the time, and the mode of tucking a short sword at the waist while carrying a long sword on the shoulder or holding it in hand also closely imitates Japanese samurai style. Add to that White Dragon's all-white outfit — white trousers and white shoes — and for audiences of the time it was truly astonishing, bringing an endless sense of novelty, and thus became a profound collective memory.
