Description:
The story follows Shen Wen-Hao (Kong Wa), a gentle and handsome-looking journalist. Though born into poverty, he is full of ambition, eagerly seizing every opportunity in the hope of building a media empire of his own.
Later, Hao meets the lively and beautiful Fang Xiao-Xin (Ng Suet-Man), and the two fall in love at first sight. But Xin already has a fiance, Yu Jia-Le (Lawrence Yan).
Le loves Xin deeply and sincerely, and she has no choice but to painfully give up her feelings for Hao. Yet at this moment Le discovers that the one Xin loves most is actually Hao, and he is devastated. Show more On the day of the wedding, Le runs away from the ceremony and dies in an accident. Amid a storm of blame, Xin returns to Hao, and from then on her fate is changed forever.
Though Hao is determined to rise, he suffers one setback after another in his career: the newspaper where he works is swallowed up by the tycoon Tang Jun-Nian (Peter Yang), and his half-brother Shen Zhi-Kun (William Hu) moves into the newsroom and makes endless trouble for him. These setbacks make him realize the importance of power and wealth, and Hao decides to climb to the top no matter the cost. By chance he meets Tang Min-Ming (Joey Man), Jun-Nian's daughter, and, to marry into the wealthy family, he seizes the opportunity to get close to Ming, finally winning her hand in marriage.
To rid himself of the pregnant Xin, Hao pretends to take her on a trip to Thailand, but plants drugs on her, and Xin is arrested there. While she is imprisoned, her family travels to Thailand to rescue her, but their plane crashes on the way and the whole family perishes. In prison Xin is beaten until she suffers a miscarriage. Fortunately, she is not fated to die: General Cha-Long (Lam Lap-San) becomes infatuated with her and rescues her. Xin uses her natural gifts to win Long's trust and resolves to use his wealth and power to take revenge on Hao.
By this time, Hao has become a prominent figure in Hong Kong's media world. Xin returns to Hong Kong and, borrowing Long's power, sets a trap to send Hao to prison, but at the last moment Hao uses Wan Hong (Sue Au), with whom he had an extramarital affair, as a scapegoat. Xin's plan fails, so she changes tactics: on one hand, she uses her beauty to seduce Jun-Nian and repeatedly undermine Hao's business; on the other, she stirs up trouble between Hao and Ming, deliberately throwing the Tang family into chaos. Hao loses his influence, argues with Jun-Nian, and accidentally kills him. Ming suffers a recurrence of her heart condition because of this, and Hao takes control of Jun-Nian's enterprise, becoming a new-generation media tycoon.
Xin knows well that justice cannot bring Hao down, so she decides to perish together with him. She sets a trap, and Hao is sentenced to death. Before the execution, Hao is filled with deep regret, while Xin leaves the world with a faint smile of victory.
