Description:
In 1930s Shanghai, the impoverished Han mother (Wu Jing) single-handedly raised her two sons. The elder, Han Feng (Roy Cheung Yiu-Yeung), kept his family in the dark as he plunged into the underworld, while the younger, Han Yu (Lu Yi), studied abroad. Amid his struggles, Han Feng befriended a woman of the night, Shuang Shuang (Chen Juan-Hong). Not long after, during an attempt to assassinate the underworld boss Big Brother Chang (Shing Fui-On), he was captured by police detective Zhao Fei-Yang (Alex Man Chi-Leung) and thrown into prison. Han Yu secretly returned to Shanghai behind his mother's back, hoping to rescue his brother, but was exploited by the ruthless and venomous Brother Zheng (Blacky Ko Sau-Leung), becoming his number-one hitman and successfully assassinating Big Brother Chang. Han Yu would slip home from time to time to visit his mother, and Xue Er (Xu Jing-Lei), who had grown up with him since childhood, had long since sensed what he was up to—yet she never confronted him to his face.
