Description:
Jiang Shan loved rockets since childhood and dreamed of becoming an aerospace expert. On the eve of leaving for further studies in the United States, he married Hai Yuan, his childhood sweetheart. Hai Yuan stayed at his home to care for his ailing mother.
Several years later, Jiang Shan completed his studies. He declined his mentor's offer to stay and resolutely returned to his homeland, to the Xichang space satellite center, to develop rockets.
Hong Kong businessman Qian Cheng, out of love for his homeland and faith in China's space program, decided that his communications satellite, the Hong Kong Star, built with his own investment, would be launched by China's satellite launch center. Show more Qian Cheng sent his daughter Qian Wang to the mainland to inspect the situation. The young Chinese scientists and engineers led by Jiang Shan, who strove bravely and selflessly dedicated themselves to the nation's space program, moved Qian Wang. She regretted her own spoiled and arrogant ways and developed a fondness for the plain, taciturn Jiang Shan. Jiang Shan gently declined Qian Wang's love in a letter and expressed to her his eternal love for his wife, Hai Yuan.
Qian Wang went to the Xichang launch base and saw Hai Yuan, who worked as a primary school teacher. Hai Yuan's diligence and kindness deeply moved Qian Wang. Learning that the mountain area badly needed teachers, she resolutely decided to stay at the Hope Primary School.
Through the joint efforts of compatriots in Hong Kong and scientific personnel on the mainland, the Hong Kong Star was successfully launched on the eve of Hong Kong's return to the motherland in 1997. Jiang Shan, however, collapsed from overwork. Hai Yuan sat by his bedside and told him the news that the satellite had reached the heavens.
