Description:
The director and screenwriter of this film, Pan Lei, was formerly the editor-in-chief of a Taipei poetry anthology — a truly literary director. Even his films, whether dramas or martial arts pictures, seem to carry a poetic quality. This is precisely his personal style. The story of this martial arts film goes as follows: the swordsman Ding Meng-Hao of the South (Liu Ping), known as the "Fastest Sword under Heaven," has wounded many a fellow swordsman with his blade. But one day, Ding is defeated by the tobacco pipe of a passing eccentric Daoist. Show more To keep his word, he submits to the eccentric Daoist and undergoes three years of grueling training. During this time, Ding suffers unbearably, carving huge boulders at the mountain gate, and unexpectedly masters the craft of stonework — in truth, the eccentric Daoist was blunting his sharpness and secretly teaching him. When the three years are up, the eccentric Daoist offers parting words: if Ding wishes to "live," he must first "die"
