Description:
In the final years of the Qing Dynasty, Jin Feng, proprietress of the capital's "Jixiang Wine Shop," is widowed and left to support the family business alone. She falls under the schemes of her neighbor Shopkeeper Ha and her husband's elder brother, and the shop's fortunes hang by a thread. The young clerk Xi Zi, clever and quick-witted, secretly comes to her aid—gathering evidence to clear her name and cunningly driving off local thugs—and the two gradually fall in love. When Shopkeeper Ha bribes officials to seal up the wine shop and all seems lost, Empress Dowager Cixi happens to make an incognito visit. Show more Xi Zi risks his life to block her carriage and plead their grievance; Jin Feng states her case in person and presents her winemaking craft, winning the Empress Dowager's approval and a gilded signboard bestowed by the throne. The wine shop thrives from then on, and with the Empress Dowager's matchmaking, the two at last become husband and wife, a tale of struggle and true feeling through and through.
