Description:
On the eastern outskirts of Nanhuang County lies the remote village of Longgu. In the Anfo Temple there stands a stone Buddha from the Wei and Jin dynasties, weighing one and a half tons, majestic and lifelike, a Grade-One national cultural relic. But one morning, the villagers discovered that the stone Buddha, which had protected this land for thousands of years, had vanished overnight! The comrades from the cultural relics unit found no trace of the suspects at the scene. The only clue was that before stealing the great Buddha, the criminals had devoutly offered incense, praying for the success of their theft! Show more What kind of criminals were these? The unit deduced that it was likely a gang operation, involving a large vehicle, and that locals were probably involved. Based on these three deductions, the comrades began a meticulous and lengthy investigation. During the investigation, clues emerged one after another, only to be eliminated one by one. Because Longgu Village is remote, backward, and poor, some villagers were ignorant, some greedy, and others haggled with the visiting officers, demanding that the police first help educate their son-in-law before they would provide clues. Laughable and exasperating situations like this occurred repeatedly, making the work of investigation and evidence collection extraordinarily difficult and tortuous.
