A twilight romance full of tender feelings reflects the real difficulty of remarriage for the elderly. "Empty Home" mainly tells the story of three old people with different living standards and vastly different life experiences who share the same loneliness and solitude of an "empty nest." In the clips, one story after another unfolds, true and natural, as if all of them had really happened around us. Among them, a twilight romance involving the elderly Hao Ming-Jun, played by Xi Mei-Juan, stands out especially. Although Hao Ming-Jun and the small restaurant owner Lao Qiao love each other, many obstacles stand in their way, and the thin barrier between them can never be broken. Children all say they want their elders to have a happy old age, but do they truly understand what kind of love and warmth they need? Fu Jing is trapped in "unrequited love" and innocently drawn into a love triangle. Young actress Fu Jing plays a "Beijing drifter" in this series, a role that seems somewhat complex at first glance. She is inevitably connected to three families in the series with ties that cannot be cut or sorted out, and she inexplicably becomes involved in a love triangle doomed to end in her own failure. She is simple and kind, loving one-sidedly the divorced son of her employer, but he already has someone else in his heart. She suffers inwardly and even attempts suicide by cutting her wrist. In Jiang Jiang, played by Fu Jing, the awkwardness and bitterness encountered by outsiders working away from home are concentrated; their love and their lives are equally worthy of attention. Is a love contract love or helplessness? Jiang Jiang, the working girl played by Fu Jing, agrees to become the "contract girlfriend" of her boss Xie Yi-Han (Ma Yuan) in order to keep her job, pretending to be a couple in front of his parents to please the old folks. Unexpectedly, the two young people only make things worse. Yi-Han's mother (Zhang Shao-Hua), for whom he took such pains, not only ends up with false hopes but also gains more worries and troubles. The "contract romance" of the two young people is also a major plotline in the series that makes people laugh yet, in truth, makes it hard to laugh. Many young people in real life face the same troubles as the characters in the series. Under the earnest urging and repeated bombardment of their elders, and with the final deadline of "forced marriage" approaching, "contract romance" becomes their unavoidable and helpless choice. We must believe that all intentions are good: the elders hope their children will settle down early, and the children hope their elders will feel at ease. But is there really no other, better way to express these actions, which stem from love yet are so helpless? I believe that after watching this series, everyone will find the ideal answer.
