Earth God and Earth Grandmother 土地公土地婆

Description:

The story tells how the Earth God Zhang Fu-De defeats his rivals and marries Li Xiu-Wen, the daughter of the City God. From then on, they live like ordinary married couples, with both sweetness and bitterness. At first, the two disagree over who should manage the home and who should work outside, and they make a bet: whoever can help an ugly girl find a good match wins. Although Fu-De loses, he proves the importance of a kind heart. Next, in order to borrow money for good fortune, Fu-De nearly gets accused of usury, but fortunately Xiu-Wen lends a hand in time, and the ending is happy for all. When the plague god is sent down from heaven, Xiu-Wen borrows a magic mirror from her parents' home, helping a woman who resents heaven and others learn to cherish what she has. And when ordinary people favor boys over girls, through Fu-De's clever arrangements and Xiu-Wen's accidental interventions, a mother comes to understand that boys and girls are equally good. With true love, the wealth that is exchanged finally makes a prodigal who treated money as his life turn back to seek his true love. Finally, Fu-De uses adversity to test children's filial devotion to their parents, teaching the world that parents are the living Buddha, so why seek elsewhere.
