Chiang orders Yan to put the tomb robbers on trial as soon as possible. Sun Dian-Ying discovers the treasures are missing and interrogates his third concubine that very night. To protect the treasures, Na Xin-Ting confronts a band of masked Daoists who have seized the treasures, and he is blindfolded and taken deep into the mountains. Show more The Daoist leader's granddaughter, Chen Zuo-Hong, falls for Na, and the Daoist Chen Hui, consumed with jealousy, uses the pretext that outsiders may not be brought into the mountains to try to kill Na Xin-Ting, but Chen Jin-Xiu and Zuo-Hong sternly stop him. To save Na Xin-Ting, Guo Song throws in his lot with Zhu Shou-Guang. Chiang praises Guo Song as a patriotic general for protecting the treasures, promotes Zhu Shou-Guang to deputy commander-in-chief of the Northern Army, and orders Yan Xi-Shan to convene a military tribunal to try the tomb robbers. The cunning old Yan Xi-Shan, seeking to preserve his strength and stand up to Chiang, deliberately stalls for time, insisting that Na Xin-Ting must be captured before the court can convene. Sun Dian-Ying seizes this breathing space to send men searching everywhere for the missing treasures and Na Xin-Ting while pleading with everyone and bribing officials high and low. Na Xin-Ting is taken to a mysterious mountain stronghold, and to get at the truth he refuses all food and drink. Zuo-Hong, defying the mountain's rules and the Daoist law, takes Na through all the stronghold's perilous passes. Having failed to kill Na, Chen Hui steals the treasures and slips down the mountain to sell them, and is trailed by Qin De-Lu, who has earned merit for Sun Dian-Ying by robbing the tombs.
