Description:
During the Republican era, warlords rose up everywhere, and among them were certainly no shortage of crude, laughable buffoons. Take this one, General Zhang: muddle-headed and eccentric, with a particular weakness for women. On one outing he spots a group of schoolgirls playing basketball, scoffs at the school's stinginess, hands out a basketball to each girl, and has all their skirts cut short. Or when his car breaks down, the ever-obsequious Adjutant Diao (played by Wong Fei) actually procures a hearse to cover for it, which only leaves the General grinning from ear to ear. Show more
Though General Zhang already has five wives in his household, he is still never satisfied and keeps scouring the land for beauties. Those who refuse him are thrown into confinement, giving rise to no end of human tragedy. When the top beam is crooked, the bottom one leans too; the philandering General can hardly keep an eye on his own backyard, which sets Adjutant Diao and the Fifth Concubine exchanging glances and carrying on a secret affair. The result is endless farce that has the common folk splitting their sides with laughter.
