Yi Dai Ming Ji Xiao Feng 一代名妓小凤

Description:

Adapted from Ryunosuke Akutagawa's famous novella "The Christ of Nanjing," the story was brought to the screen once more in 1995 as a Hong Kong-Japanese co-production. From shooting through its release, "Yi Dai Ming Ji Xiao Feng" had always carried the original title "The Christ of Nanjing," which drew protests from some Christians. When the film was submitted for review, the film division of the Government Information Office demanded a title change before it would issue a release permit. The promotional image of lead actress Lu Hsiao-Fen nailed to a cross was also banned, and the bed scene in the film was cut. Even a press conference where director Wang Chu-Chin publicly voiced his displeasure had no effect.
