Description:
During the War of Resistance Against Japan, in order to strengthen its alliance with Italy, Japan planned to steal four crested ibises—world-renowned rare animals known as 'living oriental gems'—from Qingmuchuan in China and present them to Mussolini. To this end, they sent secret agents into Qingmuchuan to carry out the 'Gem Plan.' In Qingmuchuan there was a sizable bandit gang led by a chief named Zheng Cao-Gou. Although Zheng Cao-Gou was nominally a bandit, in reality he was more like the local magistrate of Qingmuchuan, governing it into great prosperity and earning the reverence of the people. Upon learning of Japan's attempt to steal the crested ibises, he flew into a rage and shouted: 'I, Zheng Cao-Gou, am also a tough resistance fighter against Japan!' He immediately mobilized a large number of men and launched operations to match wits and courage with the Japanese agents. In the end, this caused the agents' theft of the crested ibises to fail and forced Japan to declare the 'Gem Plan' bankrupt.
