Shuo Bu Chu De Wei Lai 说不出的未来

Description:

Thirteen-year-old Yip San (played as a child by Lee Pui-Wai) plays the piano beautifully and accompanies the school orchestra. One day San collapses with a high fever. After she recovers, her music teacher and her mother (Maggie Li) notice that something is wrong with her hearing. Tests confirm that her left ear has lost its hearing almost entirely, and only limited hearing remains in her right. The beautiful music slips away from Yip San. She begins to refuse to speak, expressing herself only through gestures and written words. Her mother and father, holding back their grief, insist that their daughter speak aloud so that she does not lose the power of speech. Grown up, San (Yip San) works in a music classroom and gets along well with her colleagues. San has a sincere suitor, Ah-Wen, but she feels as though she lives at the bottom of the water, in a different world from Wen, and she plans to turn his love down. San works as an interpreter for the deaf, and while interpreting marriage vows in church she gains a special understanding. As a child, her deafness hindered her studies; as an adult, she meets rejection everywhere she applies for work. Yet this strong woman asks not for pity but for a chance — and perhaps San can give someone else a chance too. Her growing daughter's singing is tender and lovely. The dream of music has never left Yip San, and she also has a healthy, adorable daughter.
