Gang Du Xian Sheng Ni Hao! 港督先生您好!

Description:

Tang Qi-Yong (played by Tang Qi-Yong) and Huo Ruo-Shan (played by Huo Ruo-Shan) are fifth-year students at a girls' school. Classmates and close friends, they are stubborn, lively, and restless, endlessly curious, and often punished. In a lesson on letter-writing, provoked by their classmates' words, the two retort in anger that they will write to the Governor. This sparks an argument among the students. The teacher considers their discussion a "pointless" matter and punishes them with detention and copying lines. Huo Ruo-Shan's mother fills both mother and father roles; a strict discipline mistress, she disciplines her daughter at home as if she were a student, even resorting to corporal punishment. When Tang Qi-Yong's mother tries to teach her daughter, the girl is always shielded by her grandmother, leaving her mother utterly helpless. Tang Qi-Yong and Huo Ruo-Shan earnestly write a letter to Governor Sir David Wilson, asking him innocent, childlike questions. The letter to the Governor is sent! The two wait anxiously at school every day for a reply. In class, Tang Qi-Yong schemes to slip out of the classroom and wait by the door for the mail. Classmates report the two for "passing notes"; Huo Ruo-Shan hides the note, but the teacher eventually finds it. The teacher decides to punish them with a demerit, and their mothers argue with the teacher. After going home, the two receive corporal punishment from their mothers. The blows land on the child's body, but the pain is in the mother's heart. After a long wait, the Governor still has not replied, and the two feel the price they paid for that letter was far too high. Then one day, the principal summons them—it turns out the school has received a letter addressed to them. The Governor's internal secretary has written back!
