Description:
In Taipei, Taiwan, Wan Ren-Le, now over sixty, lives peacefully with his daughter Wan Jin-Jin and his son-in-law, Dr. Lin. By chance, the old man buys an old record at his own antique shop. From then on, his daughter notices that her father has suddenly become strangely eccentric: he often mistakes Taipei for Tianjin on the mainland, keeps meeting his old lover in hallucinations, and repeatedly gets into absurd situations that leave Jin-Jin deeply embarrassed. So Jin-Jin sends her father to a Taipei hospital. Show more Through days and nights at his bedside, Wan Jin-Jin discovers that her father once had a love affair no one knew about. One day, Wan Ren-Le, still under treatment, suddenly disappears. Searching for her father, Wan Jin-Jin travels to Tianjin and finally finds him with his old sworn brothers, the old policeman and Lao Cha-Fang. From the two old men, Jin-Jin learns that more than forty years ago her father was a famous crosstalk performer in Tianjin and was deeply in love with a renowned jingyun dagu singer named Tong Shui-Zhu. Revisiting his old haunts, Wan Ren-Le is stirred by the sight of familiar things, and many more phantoms arise in his mind. Jin-Jin finally realizes that her father has come to Tianjin to seek the people and the love he lost long ago, and that the unforgettable Tong Shui-Zhu is none other than her own birth mother.
