Description:
Zhang Zuo-Lin, King of the Northeast
The legendary life of Zhang Zuo-Lin, a formidable figure of his era and King of the Northeast. As this is an early work, the filming leaves something to be desired.
Zhang Zuo-Lin, courtesy name Yu-Ting, was born in 1875 in Haicheng County, Fengtian (Zhangjiasi Township, Dongfeng Town, Dawa County, Panjin City, Liaoning). In 1926 he formed the Anguojun government in Beijing and served as its commander-in-chief. In 1927 he assumed office in Beijing as Generalissimo of the Army and Navy of the Republic of China, becoming the last head of state of the Beiyang government. On June 4, 1928, under pressure from many sides, he announced his return to Fengtian. Because he had not satisfied the Japanese interests in Manchuria and Mongolia stipulated in the Twenty-One Demands signed by Yuan Shi-Kai, and had promised Japan special conditions during Guo Song-Ling's rebellion against Fengtian, his special train was bombed by Japanese troops as it passed the Sandong Bridge at Huanggutun in Fengtian, ending his legendary fifty-four-year life.
Zhang Zuo-Lin did good deeds, but he also did bad ones. In the final moment of his life, he dared to refuse to recognize a treaty that sold out the country, dared to stand up to the Japanese, and upheld national dignity.
