Zhi Feng Zheng 纸风筝

Description:

Dian Dian, a child with an acute abdominal condition, was admitted to the emergency room. During examination she was found to have a congenital heart defect that made surgery risky. The head of the surgical department, afraid the patient would die on the operating table, told Yan Jun-Chi to summon the on-duty cardiologist for an urgent consultation. The doctor who came was Xiao Yu, a graduate student who had left university only days before. After examining the girl, Xiao Yu could not contain his delight: he felt lucky to have so easily obtained the rare deformity case he needed for his thesis, and he strongly urged surgery. The department head advised Xiao Yu not to use this case as a stepping stone to a "doctoral degree" abroad, but seeing that the child's family insisted on the operation, he agreed with Xiao Yu and allowed him to take part in the surgery and subsequent treatment as an assisting physician.
Xiao Yu told Jun-Chi that as long as the child lived and his paper was published, he would win a full scholarship to Harvard University and realize his lifelong dream of studying abroad.
Xiao Yu was the first to tell Lin Mei the good news of the successful operation, not his fiancee Chen Ping. Several days passed. Because Dian Dian's mother kept delaying payment of the hospital fees, the accountant was suspended from duty by the hospital, and Xiao Yu also received a severe reprimand from the director for acting rashly. Lin Mei helped Xiao Yu raise the money and pay off the hospital bill.
Professor Chen agreed to marry his daughter to his favorite student Xiao Yu and send them abroad together, but Chen Ping remained cold toward Xiao Yu, feeling that his motives for marriage were impure. She knew that her friend Lin Mei had long been drawn to Xiao Yu. Xiao Yu swore to Chen Ping that he would give all his love to her, and that Lin Mei was merely a colleague with whom he worked in perfect harmony. Chen Ping still did not trust Xiao Yu's sincerity. While playing tennis, Chen Ping moved too forcefully and sprained her ankle. Xiao Yu, playing the hero saving the beauty, took Chen Ping home, and at last she revealed her love for him.
