Description:
The film centers on winning the battle against poverty and entering a moderately prosperous society in all respects, following the female village Party secretary as she leads the villagers out of poverty toward prosperity. The protagonist, Zhao Hui-Jie (Fang Qing-Zhuo), leads the villagers in a carrot-planting venture that ends in failure, after which people begin to doubt her. Under mounting pressure, she draws lessons from the experience and ultimately settles on cultivating medicinal herbs.
Li Yong-Bo, an entrepreneur who left the village, returns home to visit relatives. After many twists and turns, repeated persuasion, and plenty of comic moments along the way, Zhao Hui-Jie finally convinces him to stay, build a factory, and establish a cooperative, bringing the cultivation of medicinal herbs into industrialized production. With the nation's poverty alleviation policies, Zhao Hui-Jie ultimately leads the villagers to complete victory over poverty and a life of moderate prosperity.
