Description:
It was widely said that the panda could stop a war, so Cixi sent people everywhere to search for this mysterious animal, and the French biologist Armand also came to China for this living fossil of an extinct species. In China, Armand met Lin Jing, the Chinese student he had long adored in Paris, and together they ventured into the primeval forests of Mount Jiajin in Baoxing County, Ya'an. With the help of the forest goddess Ye Ying-Tao and a mysterious stranger, he found the rare species of the Ice Age — the giant panda — and announced it to the world. Show more Meanwhile, Lai Fu-Tang, who dreamed of capturing the panda to present to the imperial court and make a fortune, along with his men and Qing officials, also searched everywhere for traces of the panda.
In this struggle to capture and protect the giant panda, David became entangled in the hatred between the "forest goddess" Ye Ying-Tao and the bandit chief. His strange encounters also brought him together with many righteous and chivalrous souls. The greedy Lai Fu-Tang never ceased plotting to seize the panda. The fifth concubine, of humble birth but clear in her sense of good and evil, was determined to avenge her dead lover, and in David's struggle with Lai Fu-Tang over the giant panda she secretly helped him through many crises. But Lai Fu-Tang discovered a shocking secret.
