Before setting out, the Empress Dowager, driven by political hatred, had the Guangxu Emperor's beloved consort Zhen Fei thrown into a well to her death. Show more Yet when the Empress Dowager finally arrived at the ancient capital Xi'an after countless hardships, she discovered that the star performer of a local opera troupe, Bai Mudan, looked exactly like Zhen Fei! This Bai Mudan, whose real name was Si Qin, shared a bond of love from a past life with Chen Ran, a patriotic young man who had returned to China after five years studying in Europe and who gave the Empress Dowager and her party immense help along the westward road of their flight to Xi'an. At the same time, she was also bound by countless ties to Han Yuxuan, the governor of Shaanxi.
