On the evening of November 5, the day before Angel in White was due to open in mainland China, audiences still could not book tickets in advance. Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that Douban had changed the release date to “to be confirmed.” At the time, the agency cited no official announcement of a postponement from the distributor.

The film, starring Andy Lau Tak-Wah, follows medical workers in Wuhan during the COVID-19 outbreak. Filming wrapped in December 2020. It was only on October 17 this year that the distributor announced a release date of November 6.
