Description:
They say our memory of sounds is not as deep as our memory of sights and touches. Yet for retired principal Bai Qian-Yan (Chung King-Fai), a certain "soprano" from more than forty years ago remains as vivid as ever, stirring his thoughts at every turn. It was this soprano's singing that made him resolutely leave Canada and return to Hong Kong alone, back to the site of the school where he once taught: the Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate, hoping to reunite with a group of former students.
In its day, Ngau Tau Kok St. Show more John's Primary School defeated a host of rivals to win the overall Hong Kong championship in a music competition. It was not only the most meaningful award of Principal Bai's career, but for some of the students the one and only honor in their lives that brought glory to their families.
In the blink of an eye, the school was demolished for the redevelopment of Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate, and the primary schoolers have become ordinary middle-aged people, scattered to the winds, each toiling away at life, their interest in singing long since set aside.
Thanks to the efforts of the warm-hearted senior schoolmate nicknamed "Big Blast," Dai Zhan-Liang (Hugo Ng), his shrewd but suspicious wife Gan Jing-Yi (Mimi Kung), the detective Lu Ju-Nan (Owen Cheung), and Principal Bai's divorced granddaughter Bai Xue-Er (Jacqueline Wong), the members of the old choir are tracked down one by one, among them the retired trading company boss Chen Li-Zhang (Huang He) (
