Description:
Two marriages in the city of Yangzhou became the talk of the town: one was that of Miss Du Bing-Yan of the Du family in the north of the city, who was to marry into the Qi household, the richest family in Linzhou; the other was that of Li Yu-Hu, daughter of a martial arts master from the east of the city, who was to marry a general enjoying the height of imperial favor. Not only did the two families marry off their daughters on the same day, they also prepared identical wedding gowns and identical bridal palanquins. Show more Yet behind this staggering wealth and lofty honor lay another truth: the third young master Qi was gravely ill with little time left, and General Yuan Bu-Qu had made killing his trade and destroying cities his merit, and had already buried two lawful wives. Both young ladies secretly wept over their own bitter fates. On the wedding day, the two bridal processions left the city at the same time, but on the way a downpour suddenly struck, and both parties crowded into the same Temple of the Fairy to take shelter. Inside, the two brides, kindred spirits in their shared misfortune, swore sisterhood. Then word came that bandits were attacking, and in the confusion the brides boarded the wrong palanquins. The swordswoman entered a grand mansion and, amid banter and bickering with the third young master, overturned every scheme and plot; the refined lady went off to the battlefield and, amid flashing blades, matched wits and courage with the general, taming the fierce man until he bowed his head.
And so a twist of fate gave rise to two intricate, extraordinary and interwoven love stories, bringing together two devoted couples and a life of happiness.
