Synopsis
Migrant worker Le Mancang (warm-hearted and easygoing, everyone calls him Old Le) is over fifty and has lived in the city for nearly twenty years, yet he still considers himself a farmer. It's not that Old Le lacks the means to become a city dweller—his son Le Xiao-Yong came to the city ten years ago and has already gone from a vegetable peddler to the owner of a hot pot restaurant, becoming a true urbanite. His daughter-in-law Li Chun-Hua has likewise transformed from a village girl working in the city into a wealthy woman, more urban than the urbanites (she has even changed her name to Li Yuan-Yuan). His son is filial, but Old Le still insists on supporting himself and continues to work as a laborer. Old Le has remained a widower all along. Through the matchmaking of his fellow townsman Liu Feng-Chi, he decides to marry Liu Feng-Chi's younger sister, Liu Feng-Qin.
Just as Old Le is shopping in a department store, preparing to return to the countryside for his wedding, he encounters Zhang He-Ping, a fugitive wanted for murder.
