Description:
A female skeleton was found in a river near the shantytown of Xujiahui in Shanghai. Detective Zhong Lang (Ray Lui Leung-Wai) of the police force, scientist Kang Hua-Sheng (Xu Liang), and Yu Sheng-Nan (Li Ruo-Si), a female professor at the St. John's University laboratory, go to the scene to investigate, only to discover that the skeleton had been disguised through a special method as a body that had been dead for three years. Hua-Sheng reconstructs the face from the skull, and one of the portraits bears an striking resemblance to Du Lan, the female manager of Shanghai's Hujiang Hotel who mysteriously disappeared not long ago. Behind Du Lan is the gang boss Master Shun, and her true identity is shrouded in mystery. Zhong Lang vaguely feels that Du Lan's work has much in common with what he himself did years ago. The people and levels involved in the case grow ever wider, and the police higher-ups suddenly order the investigation to be terminated.
