The handsome and dashing Pan Yu, having failed to win the heart of Li Mei, staged an absurd suicide attempt in a hot air balloon and got to know Zhao Fan, the "eternal second place." Pan Yu performs outstandingly, wins everyone's admiration, and soon obtains his license. He also becomes a full-fledged team member. Show more But he often clashes and quarrels with Da Lin and Xiao Liu.
At Pan Yu's suggestion, Old Zhao gains his wife's support and replaces the equipment and instruments to facilitate in-flight positioning, earning everyone's approval. After a series of ups and downs, Pan Yu, though he has still not won Li Mei's heart, officially becomes Old Zhao's co-pilot thanks to his exceptional performance. Old Zhao knows his illness is severe and his days are numbered, and intends to groom Pan Yu, but Pan Yu misinterprets his intentions. Before one competition, Pan Yu insists on piloting alone; due to a careless maneuver, he burns the balloon and is mocked by everyone. Enraged, Pan Yu walks away. In the end, after Xiao Liu talks some sense into him, he returns to the team.
Old Zhao escapes the grip of illness time and again. During one voluntary risky rescue operation, he successfully saves a trapped person, but suffers another attack. Though he fails to compete and win the championship, Pan Yu accompanies Old Zhao on his final flight, completing the journey of his life.
