Mei Li 美丽

Description:

Before the age of five, Zhuang Mei-Li was beautiful. At five, she came down with a high fever, and because of her mother's negligence, not only was the left side of her body left twisted, but her whole life was set on a rough path. Through her good friend A Tao's introduction, Mei-Li took a temporary job at a park, where she met the first man in her life — A Ping. Though the two were drawn to each other, their families fell into a bitter quarrel during the marriage meeting, the engagement fell through, and not long after, A Ping died in a car accident. Heartbroken, Mei-Li had no strength to fight fate, and under her family's insistence, she reluctantly married a dwarf named A Ming, a man she felt nothing for and who looked down on her. Due to his underdevelopment, A Ming was unable to consummate the marriage, yet he falsely accused Mei-Li of not being a virgin. Unable to bear the humiliation, Mei-Li divorced him. After the divorce, with A Tao's help, she agreed to a matchmaking session arranged by a fortune-teller. The blind fortune-teller was as gentle as A Ping, and his kind treatment and comforting words warmed Mei-Li's heart, rekindling in her a glimmer of hope for life.
