Great Cold 大寒

Description:

The story is told through the eyes of teacher Zhang Shuang-Bing, who spent 33 years visiting and investigating elderly women who had suffered sexual violence at the hands of Japanese soldiers.
The film's central figure, Cui Da-Ni (a comfort woman), sees the criminal war of Japanese invasion shatter the prosperous, peaceful and quiet life of a small mountain village, shatter Da-Ni's own happiness while she is still on her honeymoon. The brutality, ravaging and torment of the Japanese soldiers, together with the selfishness, submission and cowardice of Liang Chang-Gui, village head of Taoyuan, bring even more suffering and shame upon Taoyuan. It sits in Da-Ni's heart like a lump of ice: the unclean reputation of a "comfort woman" has not let her live a single day with her head held high. More than 70 years have passed since the war ended, and all along she has been slowly melting that lump of ice in her heart with her own body's warmth. In the end, the cry that rises from the depths of her heart is: "Spring has come."
