Chu Sheng 初生

Description:

Sixteen-year-old Xiao-Yun (Candy Wen Xue-Er) is sent to a correctional institution for stealing money from home. A stripper, she was egged on by her boyfriend to steal her family's money. Her mother (May Che Yuet-Mei) had hoped to report the boyfriend and have him convicted, but in the end it was her own daughter who was sentenced to imprisonment. Throughout it all, Xiao-Yun shoulders the blame entirely, which is what lands her behind bars. Misfortunes never come singly: Xiao-Yun is several months pregnant, and because she insists on keeping the baby, she falls out with her mother. Inside the correctional institution, Xiao-Yun reflects on the years she has lived through, nervously taking responsibility for what she has done, while awaiting the birth of her child and her own rebirth.
