The TV series "Wu Song" will undoubtedly be written into the history of Chinese television. It may not have been the first TV series adapted from a classical literary work, but among such productions it was the first to cause a sensation. Show more People over thirty-five still remember the days when the streets emptied as everyone watched "Wu Song." Wu Song is a figure known to every household, and bringing him to life on screen was, one might say, an extremely difficult task. But one thing is certain: to this day, no adapted television character from a classic novel has been as unanimously accepted as Wu Song. "Wu Song" was also the first television work to employ professional martial arts actors to carefully choreograph the fight scenes and to pay attention to visual impact. Although ordinary viewers were mostly drawn to the drunken boxing, professionals believe the work is even more significant for its narrative, structure, and audiovisual language, all of which reached a high level of maturity. "Wu Song" is very similar to the film "Shaolin Temple," which appeared at almost the same time: both caused a sensation, both were turning points, and both represented the high standards of film and television production of the era. Wu Song as played by Zhu Yan-Ping is the most classic portrayal of Wu Song.
