The beautiful Liaodong Bay in the northeast is famous for its abundance of jellyfish. Every year, when jellyfish come onto the market in peak season, private traders from all over flock there with huge sums of money to buy them up.
A Chen, a young girl just starting out in the world, brought along by others to brave Liaodong, penniless yet resolute and quick-witted; Yuan Hong, a hired hand with not a cent to his name but a generous, broad-minded spirit; Lü Lin, a millionaire who made his fortune overnight; and Lao Zhao, cunning, dissolute, selfish, and cynical — the group sets off together. Is Liaodong Bay really so easy to conquer?
Along the way, each harbors his own schemes, and no sooner do they get off the train than they run into thugs trying to rob them. At the critical moment, Peng Hong's quick thinking saves the day. Arriving in the rural area where jellyfish are bought, they encounter corruption among state law enforcement officers, and the extortion, bullying, and unreasonableness of the villagers. How will they get through and resolve all this…
After many struggles and hardships, given their differing views and attitudes toward career, life, money, love, and setbacks, will these people stray onto crooked paths in the treacherous and ever-changing world of business? Can they withstand the temptations of romance?
