Description:
Jinyang County was blessed with green hills and clear waters and rich produce, yet its officials were steeped in corruption. What was worse, the nobleman San Jue-Luo quietly stirred up trouble, inciting local thugs to do as they pleased and run roughshod over the people, making life unbearable for the folk of Jinyang while state taxes drained away badly. Fan Ru-Hua, entrusted with the post in a time of crisis, sets off to take up office with his young sister-in-law Ling Long, and trailing behind them is Bo Luo, a clerk sent by a "money house" to collect a debt. Show more Once in office, Fan Ru-Hua first locks horns with Wan Jin-Gang, the ringleader of the local underworld who controls Jinyang's economy and has connections to every ministry of the Great Qing. Through a battle of wits, using methods beyond ordinary men, he deals with this consummate rogue who has friends in high places, and in doing so breaks Qing law: he is fined two years' salary. Yet he wins the hearts of the people of Jinyang. The true boss behind Jinyang's underworld, San Jue-Luo, who calls himself "Little Zhuge," sees that Fan Ru-Hua means trouble and, contrary to his usual ways, begins doing good deeds for the people, while secretly continuing to trip Fan Ru-Hua up and set traps for him. Bo Luo, eager to settle the debt as quickly as possible, uses every trick to tempt Fan Ru-Hua into being a corrupt official just once. Lv Da-Long and Grandma Er Hu both admire Fan Ru-Hua greatly and secretly help him, but this stirs jealousy in the heart of Ling Long, who has long secretly loved Fan Ru-Hua, and she deliberately grows close to Bo Luo in front of him. The lovable Bo Luo, unaware of her "intent," calms his heart that flies like an arrow, and says he will keep Ling Long company.
