Description:
This is a drama series about human nature, true love, misplaced love, fate, and the vicissitudes of life. Set against the historical backdrop from the late 1940s to the early 1980s, it tells of the fortunes, joys and sorrows, romantic entanglements, and conflicts of two generations at a power plant on the banks of the Yangtze River. It depicts the love stories of the older generation and their children, and creates a host of vivid characters: the conscientious worker's son Kuang Yi-Fu, who dares to love and hate; Zhuang Chu, a turncoat who betrays his wife and his soul while clinging to the notion that "left is better than right"; Xi Xiao-Rong, the ravaged daughter of a capitalist; Lai Fu, the ugly-looking but kind-hearted peasant; and Kuang Mei-Zhu, the educated youth who, after the great link-ups, undergoes "re-education." The story is full of twists and turns, gripping and poignantly moving.
