Description:
The series unfolds in Huizhou during the late Qing dynasty and the early years of the Republic of China, centering on the feud between two great clans, the Lian and the Li.
A bizarre kidnapping case brings Lian Cheng-Wen both the bride he desired, Li Jin-Qiu, and a revival of his business, which had nearly been ruined. Little does he know that this kidnapping, staged by his own hand, tears apart the secret love between his younger brother Cheng-Yun and Jin-Qiu. Though Cheng-Wen knows he is at fault, he is still furious. Show more
Meanwhile, the head of the Li family is thrown into prison: fearing that the new government would confiscate property and punish former Qing officials, Old Mrs. Lian had entrusted all the imperial gifts to her cousin Mrs. Li. The gifts were discovered and seized, and Mr. Li died unjustly on the road to exile. Mother and son of the Li family blame the Lian family and vow never to reconcile, demanding blood for blood. Jin-Qiu had been married into the Lian family in the hope of using their power to rescue Mr. Li, but the plan backfired and they lost more than they gained. Young Master Li Jin-Xuan refuses to accept this. Together with his trusted man Pan Hao-Tian, he sets one scheme after another in motion to destroy the Lian family. The kind and resilient Jin-Qiu devotes herself to helping Cheng-Wen, and from mutual misunderstanding and rejection they build a steadfast and unyielding love. But Cheng-Wen is framed and arrested over a poisoned wine case. To save his brother, Cheng-Yun sends him into exile, yet Cheng-Yun himself becomes the subject of gossip, accused of using the moment to avenge the loss of his wife.
Having survived incredible ordeals on the edge of life and death, Cheng-Wen returns home as a wealthy merchant of his generation. But what awaits him is a far more terrifying enemy — a man who harbors a deep hatred toward both the Lian and Li families stretching back more than a decade, the mastermind behind it all: Pan Hao-Tian.
