Peng You Yi Chang 朋友一场

Description:

Everyone has all kinds of friends in life, but this is a most unusual story about friendship. It has love and hate, laughter and tears, it is utterly real and true, and it happens right beside you, me, and everyone else. The story follows Shi Jin — a good-hearted man past forty, loyal and righteous, always pressing forward. Shi Jin has a friend named Lao Bi. Back when Shi Jin lost his job and lost money on several ventures, he wanted to buy a car to drive a taxi, and it was Lao Bi who lent him the money to buy it; Shi Jin has always been grateful to him. The factory Lao Bi ran ran into financial trouble, and Shi Jin helped him raise funds in his own name. In the process of borrowing money there arose many awkward and darkly comic situations, which made Shi Jin deeply feel the mixed flavors of society and life, but in the end he still managed to borrow one hundred and eighty thousand yuan for Lao Bi, even bringing out the money his parents had saved for their old age.
But Shi Jin never dreamed that the respected Brother Bi would run off with the money...
Shi Jin brought trouble on himself. His wife Ximei flew into a rage, but she still helped her husband repay their friends' money, selling even the taxi. Yet when Ximei discovered that Shi Jin was still looking after Lao Bi's family and had even repaid debts for Lao Bi's wife Jin Zhu, she was deeply displeased, and the whole family was thrown into internal and external troubles, with no peace at home. Facing all kinds of difficulties, Shi Jin withstood every pressure and persevered until the factory, on the verge of collapse, was thriving again.
Just when Shi Jin had achieved success, Lao Bi, who had run off with the money to another place, was cheated by his lover and thrown into prison. Shi Jin told everyone that Lao Bi was in fact his benefactor, and that without him he would probably have accomplished nothing in life. He still brought Lao Bi back.
This is a social-ethical drama with a touch of light comedy; its material is rooted in the soil of contemporary society, close to the everyday life of ordinary people, with witty and humorous language and a twisting, moving plot.
