Adapted from Zhang Hui-Ling's novel "Happiness on the Side" (originally titled "Blooming Over the Fence"), it tells the story of a mother who moved an entire city. Pan Jiao-Jiao runs a gambling parlor in Wuhan's Tanhualin district, raising three children on a modest and often hard-pressed existence. With the arrival of the young painter Yang Qing, her life is turned completely upside down. They are far apart in both age and background, yet through their constant clashes Yang Qing falls for the open-hearted, kind, and utterly captivating Pan Jiao-Jiao. Just as she is preparing to embrace a grand romance, a battle for her child begins.
