At the national shooting tour, marksman He Jun-Feng, intimidated by the aggressive pressure of his young rivals, raises his hand and withdraws, drawing unanimous condemnation from the crowd. Leaving the team of his own accord, He Jun-Feng arrives in a small seaside town, hoping to heal his wounds there.
On the ancient Great Wall, He Jun-Feng meets Wu Lan, a dance teacher at the city sports school who dances in imitation of an eagle. Inspired by the spirit of the eagle and enlightened by his mentor Coach Xu, He Jun-Feng decides to rouse himself again. He becomes a coach at the Jun-Feng Shooting Club founded by his senior from the youth sports school, Zhang Kui, hoping with all his heart that by training the children into fine marksmen he will fulfill the dream he never achieved. Among the club's children, the one He Jun-Feng loves most is Peng Xiao-Shan, a boy from a poor mountain village. Peng Xiao-Shan's father is gravely ill, and this weighs heavily on the boy. At the provincial youth shooting competition, Peng Xiao-Shan, learning mid-match that his father has died of stomach cancer, sorrowfully lowers his gun and raises his hand to the referee. Seeing the tragedy of his own youth about to repeat itself in Peng Xiao-Shan, He Jun-Feng shouts loudly: "Hold the gun!"
