Legend of North Wei Dynasty: Ambitious and Pathetic Sympathy 北魏传奇之宏图恨

Description:

Empress Dowager Feng, worn out by ceaseless toil, passed away too early. Emperor Xiaowen, carrying on her legacy, resolutely pursued the path of reform: he relocated the capital, ordered the adoption of Han clothing, the change of surnames to Han ones, and the speaking of the Han language — these bold and sweeping transformations propelled Northern Wei society from a primitive nomadic order to a feudal system built on an agrarian economy. Yet the reforms struck at the vital interests of many noble and powerful clans. A handful of old aristocrats, led by Yuan He and Tuoba Zi-Tui, tried every means to strike back: they hounded to death Lin Ming-Zhu, the emperor Xiaowen's beloved, and then lured Crown Prince Yuan Xun into breaking the law, forcing Emperor Xiaowen to put his own son to death despite his anguish. Though the road of reform was arduous and winding, fraught at every step with mortal trials and exacting a tremendous price, through the tireless efforts of several generations of Northern Wei statesmen who rose one after another, the great work was at last accomplished, composing a historical ode to ethnic fusion and the harmonious progress of society.
