Anti-War Story 抗倭恩仇录

Description:

During the reign of the Ming emperor Jiaqing, treacherous ministers held power and the country was beset by internal troubles and foreign threats. Songjiang County in southeastern Zhejiang was also frequently raided by Japanese pirates. The newly appointed judicial official Wu Shi-Lai resolved to wipe out the pirates and save the people of Songjiang from fire and water. Before long the pirates, led by their chief Tajo-Maru, swept through the region, looting, killing and burning. Inspired by Wu Shi-Lai, the people of Songjiang vied with one another to donate money and goods and to give their labor. Facing the pirates who were about to storm the city, Wu Shi-Lai led the garrison and the townspeople in building fortifications, sent men to urgently seek reinforcements, and at the same time devised a plan for when the pirates attacked. The next day the pirates launched a fierce assault on Songjiang and blew up the southwestern city wall with gunpowder. As the pirates surged madly into the city, Wu Shi-Lai hastily gathered the archers, concentrated all the arrows and drove them back. The pirates temporarily withdrew, but almost no arrows were left on the walls. At the critical moment reinforcements arrived, and the garrison and townspeople, led by Wu Shi-Lai and united against the common enemy, annihilated the pirates in one stroke.
