Description:
On her sickbed, 84-year-old retired cadre Lin Yu-Hong lies dying, unable to let go of her longing to return to the ancient desert city that haunts her dreams.
To fulfill Mother Lin's last wish, her adopted daughter Lin Shui-Lian gathers four urban volunteers with expertise in archaeology, medical rescue, and wilderness survival, and together they set off for the vast desert of the northwest.
Along the way, the team endures countless hardships, pushing the limits of survival as they overcome getting lost, water shortages, quicksand, and one obstacle after another, until they finally find the ancient city—and unexpectedly encounter the grave keeper, Old Ma. Show more
Following the clues in Mother Lin's diary and the village elder's account, they learn that during the war, an army logistics unit was ambushed by the enemy. A small detachment made up of female soldiers—a cryptographer, members of a cultural troupe, a journalist—carried codes and documents and made a detour through the Gobi desert, where the enemy's encirclement was weakest, to break out. In the ancient city, they unexpectedly ran into the enemy.
