Description:
This is a costume drama series depicting the history of the Qing Dynasty, faithfully recreating that period when the Chinese people were ravaged by the foreign powers. The plot is full of twists and turns, stirring and soul-stirring, with a blend of humor, martial arts, and battles of wits and courage — a rare historical drama in recent years. The story takes place in the 26th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1900 AD). One day, a low-ranking officer of the Gansu patrol got drunk and shot dead the German minister Klemens von Ketteler. Show more Using this as a pretext, the foreigners found an excuse to seize China by force. The Eight-Nation Alliance invaded China on a massive scale, and Cixi fled west in a panic upon hearing the news. Li Hongzhang and others were ordered to negotiate peace with the invaders and signed the humiliating Treaty of 1901, which forfeited China's sovereignty. The Germans demanded heavy reparations and insisted that the Guangxu Emperor personally travel to Germany to apologize for the crime. Cixi, both furious and terrified, decided to send an imperial prince to Germany in the Guangxu Emperor's place.
