Description:
Mother Wants Me To Be Married is adapted from Liu Zhen's novel Elder Sister Chun. Li Yu-Chun is not only capable and pretty but also headstrong. The mutual-aid team of North Village, where she lives, borders the cooperative farmland of South Village. Through their work, Yu-Chun comes to know Liu Ming-Hua of the South Village cooperative. Ming-Hua is plain-spoken and warm-hearted, and Yu-Chun gradually falls for him. One stormy day, Yu-Chun's ox cart gets stuck in the river, and just as she is at a loss, Ming-Hua rushes over, helps push the cart ashore, puts his straw hat on Yu-Chun, and walks home in the rain himself. Show more Knowing that Ming-Hua's family is not well off, Yu-Chun secretly makes shoes for him behind her mother's back. When Ming-Hua's mother learns of this, she too thinks Yu-Chun is a good girl. Yu-Chun's mother is set on finding her daughter a wealthy family. Aunt Wang takes Yu-Chun's mother to the Zhao family home to arrange a match with Zhao Jiu-Xi. Seeing the Zhao family's prosperity, and then Jiu-Xi himself, who can both read and reckon and even do business, Yu-Chun's mother is very pleased. But when Jiu-Xi comes with betrothal gifts, Yu-Chun angrily walks out. Yu-Chun's good friend Xiu Fang scolds her for hiding her relationship with Ming-Hua from her mother. Late that night, Yu-Chun tells her mother about herself and Ming-Hua, but her mother thinks her daughter has defied her wishes by falling in love with a poor wretch, and is furious. The next day, she forces her daughter to go with her to the livestock fair to buy a dowry. Yu-Chun and Ming-Hua meet, but have no chance to talk.
