This alarmed his beloved consort Xiao-Qiao, who set out after him with the imperial guards. The scholar Jin Ke-Zhong met young lady Guan-Guan, and the two fell in love, though their path was fraught with trials. Show more Chancellor Gao's son, Gao Ya-Nei, lusted after Guan-Guan's beauty and tried to take her by force, but she cleverly outwitted him. The emperor, traveling under the name Lord Long, encountered young master Jin and young lady Guan-Guan, and together they exposed Chancellor Gao's scheme of embezzlement and corruption. Justice finally triumphed over evil. The emperor rewarded the two heroes, but young master Jin and young lady Guan-Guan were unmoved by high office and rich stipends. They resolutely renounced wealth and honor and wandered the rivers and lakes together, to live the ordinary life of common folk.
