Maverick 菜鸟

Description:

Rookie Ye Ming-Xian has barely pinned on his badge when his very first case takes him beyond morality and regulation. Simple cases are never simple: both the underworld and the straight world come to meddle, pressure from above, resistance from below, and it is your own people who hold you back. Just when he needs help most, he clashes with his senior Ming-Ge — one slams the accelerator, the other is an old hand; it is the bitterest foes who end up together. Facing the unwritten rules of the police world, stumbling and scrambling, he shakes up the placid surface of good and evil that everyone long ago compromised with. To make right and wrong clear, justice cannot wait. Cheerful yet barbed, combining speed with explosive force and a brilliant dramatic rhythm, Cheng Wen-Tang's Maverick skewers society's ills: collusion between officials and businessmen, drug trafficking, gangs invading schools, and the countless pressures and compromises born of the wealth gap. As the line between good and evil blurs, how precious is it to hold firm at the crossroads of human nature? Yu Sheng and Kaiser Chuang play off each other with striking contrast, crackling with tension. Only a rookie can look up at the whole sky.
