When word of his mother's grave illness reaches Shanghai, Lin Xiang is beside himself with worry. With the times so turbulent, Qiao's father promises his son: first a wedding in Shanghai, then he will take Yan-Qing to Taiwan to visit his mother. Show more But just before boarding the ship, Tang Hao-Yi, behind Yan-Qing's back, throws Lin Xiang into the Huangpu River. Knowing nothing of this, Yan-Qing arrives in Taiwan in a daze with the murderer of her husband. When she learns that Lin Xiang is dead, she is utterly devastated and decides to take her own life, but the kind-hearted Han Zu-Guang (Li Yun-Qing) cleverly saves her. Half a century passes in a flash. Qiao Yan-Qing and Han Zu-Guang, now a grandmother and grandfather, suddenly see an exhibition of Lin Xiang's photography. Bewildered, and accompanied by their granddaughter Han Wei (Queenie Tai), Yan-Qing meets Lin Xiang in Shanghai, a man who has waited for her for most of his life.
