Description:
In the arduous year of 1942, during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, villages on the edge of the anti-Japanese base area on the Jiaodong Peninsula, such as Zhaojiazhuang, were constantly subjected to surprise attacks by Japanese troops. To reduce losses, Lei Zhu-Ren (Zhang Zhang-Rui), head of the district armed forces committee, and Zhao Hu (Bai Da-Jun), captain of the Zhaojiazhuang militia, pooled the wisdom of the masses and devised a strategy to counter the Japanese: while uniting several nearby villages into a joint militia defense to strengthen their armed forces, they also used homemade landmines to create all kinds of minefields, dealing the Japanese troops a heavy blow. To counter the minefields, the Japanese brought in sappers who stormed into Zhaojiazhuang, burning, killing and looting. The militia promptly summed up their experience, learned from their mistakes, and kept improving their mine-making techniques and laying methods, leaving the Japanese unable to guard against them. When the wheat harvest season arrived, the Japanese intended to take Zhaojiazhuang in one stroke while the militia was busy bringing in the wheat, little knowing that the militia had already set an even more ingenious minefield trap.
