Lam Sai-Wing 林世荣
Lam Sai-Wing (林世榮) was a real historical figure and one of the most renowned masters of southern martial arts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a disciple of the legendary Wong Fei-Hung. In the history of Chinese culture he is known as a practitioner and popularizer of the Hung Gar style, and also as a man who played an important role in preserving martial traditions during the era of colonial Hong Kong and social upheaval. For the mass audience, however, Lam Sai-Wing exists first and foremost not as a documentary figure but as the hero of numerous films, in which he has been turned into a vivid, instantly recognizable image of an honest, somewhat rough-edged, yet endlessly devoted disciple of the great master.
